Argh, googling “create couchdb” for what seemed like an hour only returned largely irrelevant documents and “technical overviews” on the couchdb home page. Anyway, once you have couchdb running, point your browser to the web interface at
http://localhost:5984/_utils/
And at the top you’ll see “Create Database…” Definitely bookmark this page.
